40K Stuff

Post by Kasrkin Seath on Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:19 pm

So, following an Ebay buying spree I've started building an army (Imperial Guard of course) and have also begun to learn how to create terrain out of cheap materials. I'll get to posting some images of the mini's for suggestions and comments once I get them a bit further along, but for the time being I would like to show you my first piece of terrain.

This is the terrain piece just after I base coated it in a flat black paint. The walls and debris are all foam board and the little smokestack majig is half a can and a piece of paper towel roll. I made the base out of cardboard which was a bad idea. It is now badly warped. I'm considering gluing the whole thing to a piece of foam board now just to get it flattened out.

After a couple more coats, and an attempt at a wash and some dry brushing I've ended up with this. Ignoring the still black base (which will be coated with flock and some sand once the ground outside thaws), I think I'm finished. I used some paperclips to act as rebar sticking out of the concrete and used a brown paint for rust effects (which are everywhere). I also tried to add a bit of grimy-ness by using a brown/black wash.

It's my first piece of terrain I've ever attempted and my first real shots at dry brushing and and washing, so while it doesn't look too good I'm still happy that it isn't terrible either.

Here is my lil test bro, who took the brunt of the painting mishaps early on.
He has gone from: all white nazi, to all black nazi, to blue nazi, to grey and black nazi, to scottish nazi (greatcoat was a kilt) to the current form.

The terrain looks really good, is a convincing look of broken concrete walls. Feel proud marine.

I couldn't resist.

Pretty good, btw. Better than anything I've done in the past ever.

That's awesome.

Of course, I have to ask: will you be a traitor and render the other factions into these terrain settings?

All I suggest is this.

And here I thought that'd be a video on mixing additives to your paint to make the painted models more realistic...

How naive of me... to expect something that productive and helpful from a brit

I take offense to that, this video clearly shows how not to paint your figures and the importance of not applying too much paint. The comments of that video have plenty of good tips on how to do it.

Besides, not to have copious amounts of yelling in a 40K video would be heresy.

It would be Heresy.

And daring to paint the Emprah's troops like that is double Heresy.
